Can dealer tell if ECU was reset by disconnecting battery?

I have a new 2004 sentra 1.8 and it's only a month old, but the SES light came on. I disconnected the battery overnight, and the light stayed off for a week, but then came back on. I have an appointment this weekend and I was told it will be covered under warranty, but don't want the dealership to refute responsibility if they find I tried to reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery and the problem is something serious. Will they be able to tell?

they shouldn't be able to tell, unless the ecu had a log of it. but i think thats kinda pointless as the dealer will just reset it themselves after they fix it.

no, the ecu wont make a log of it. the technicians wouldnt be able to tell u unplugged the battery overnight, and even if they did, they cant tell u nothing about it.....disconnecting the battery doesnt void the warranty

Yeah, I know I wouldn't be rejected from warranty service by disconnecting the battery, but they might try and say, if you didn't try and make the light go away yourself and brought the car in earlier, the O2 sensor wouldn't have gone bad, or whatever is wrong with it. I can imagine that being something they would pull, but as long as the ECU doesn't record when it is reset then I have nothing to worry about. Thanks guys!

in that case i would advise a nut kicking, possibly twice. i dont think they'll pull that, O2's go bad, it happens.
