2002 Nissan Sentra - Timing Sprocket Removal

I'm removing the head on a 1.8 and I can't get the variable timing sprocket off the cam shaft. I used a wrench to hold the cam stationary and with a breaker bar I could not get the bolt to break loose. I did not apply air to the one oil port toward the fire wall ...any suggestions would greatly be appreciated!!

Those have a lot of torque to them. I can't recall exactly what the spec was, but that it was the highest torque I had when I did mine.

I used a BIG crescent wrench to hold the cam, with a fairly large set of vice grips locked onto the end of the handle for extra length adding up to the length of a 1/2 inch drive flex bar. And the only socket wrench I had long enough for the sprocket bolt was the torque wrench with which I put it back on later.

Thumbs up timing sprocket

thanks for the input. Sorry for the late reply PC has been down. I used a large breaker bar and a 21mm wrench with a pipe on the it my son held the wrench while I went for broke with the breaker bar and it worked! I had tried a impact wrench rated at 245ft/lbs and it would not budge. I'm amazed a 10mm bolt could handle that much torque. I got the head back from the machine shop with minor resurfacing and headbolts and gaskets form Rockauto. I will try to put it back together this weekend. thanks Mike
