Unhappy Next Step? Spark Plug Broke Off!

Went to change spark plugs in my 2005 Sentra and the third one broke off above the threads(below the hex lands). Nissan said they would only replace the whole head. Another mechanic said he could pull the head and send to a machine shop and remove the threaded shank.
Anyone else had this problem? The top of the plug, along with the electrode came out clean and I pretty sure nothing fell into the cylinder. I wonder if an easyout would work or do I need to go ahead and pull the head?
Turning out to be a very expensive tune up.
