Hi Everyone,
At the moment, the light is off.
Long ago, I used to fill up my tank and after a bit, the gasoline would come
out the gas entry!!!! Changed the gas tank. Nothing changed. Changed the
Fuel Vapour Canister, and it was fixed and the light went away. At the time, the Service
Engine Soon (SES) did not give EVAP as the code.
Then a year later, I got the SES light again. I had an O2 sensor changed and that
fixed it, but now it's back.
Previously, when it was the Fuel Vapour Canister, I went to a junk yard and
bought one for $50. Now, 1.5 years later, it's back. A crazy
suggestion was made since the original canister was very heavy,
perhaps fully of debris or water or something, it wasn't working. So at the moment, I
drilled a whole in both chambers and a day later (after the light was one for 2 weeks), the light went away.
No clue if that really worked or not, and no water ever came out of the canister.
Probably a myth. I found the the Vapour Canister online for about
$120 brand new, as opposed to the $350 from the dealership. I also
get the SES light for the gas cap occasionally, when I clearly closed
it well.
Also, the LCD is going on the radio. It is not worth fixing it. Decided
to just buy a new radio and move on. That's what I'll be doing...they now have
radios with built in bluetooth for handsfree calling
So, should I replace the gas cap? Should I buy a new vapour canister
instead of trying to play games with it by poking holes? By the way, I used a drill
and tightly fit in 2 screws into the the canister. I really am unsure if what I
did to make the SES light go away was safe or not. But so far it's working.
I just went on eBay and bought a code reader. Should be arriving in the mail soon
so that the next time the light comes again, I can check it.
Any advice would be helpful (e.g....drilling hole will make my car blow up :P ) or anything.
I wish I knew more about cars
