I am replacing the Catalytic converter this weekend. I have also been told that the problem (SES light is lit - P0420 code and running sloggy) might be due to a faulty O2 sensor (bank1) I have also been told there is an O2 sensor on or very close to the cat.
NO.
I was under the car most of yesterday, removed the shield and felt all around my Cat and there is NO O2 SENSOR there or anywhere along the exhaust system. Ther ARE 4 sensors up on the front of the engine. I see to above and two below. Now, my question is this:
If it is a Bank 1 sensor - which of the 4 sensors am I needing to investigate? And once removed, is htere a visual inspection or test I can do to see if it indeed is defective?
Hmm. I'm a little confused. Because since your car is a four cylinder, there is only one bank. But since there is only one bank, there should only be TWO sensors. One before the cat and one after. Sometimes the scanner that your using will say "bank one" because you can use the scanner on a V-Type engine, therefore it would have to identify more than one bank. But the scanner didn't specify which sensor was the problem?
No, no indication at all. An I am equally confused as there seems to be no O2 sensor AFTER the Cat. Could it be MUCH further down the line form the unit? I was under the impression it would be either on the Cat or on the pipe just anterior of the Cat.
That code is a generic code. Its not nissan specific. Bank one lean codes are the normal
generic reading. the only one i found that could give me any for sure info was a nissan scan tool. A snap on scan tool would work also if you look at the generated voltage from the 02 sensors. a bad 02 sensor will usually have 0 volts constant or 1 volt constant
