2000 GXE 1.8 problem - please help
Hi folks - I'm a new member today. I joined up to post a question, because I have a problem.
My car is messed up (2000 GXE, 77k miles, 1.8L 5 speed). It's a long story, but the short version is that my SES light was on, & my shop replaced all 4 O2 sensors (P0171) & swapped the #2 & #3 cylinder coil overs (P0303) to fix the problem. The light still came on. I had the codes read by AutoZone, they are the same - even the swap of the coil overs didn't change the P0303. I bought some CRC QD cleaner & some Electrical Contact Cleaner (Radio Shack) & pulled the MAF. It looked clean - but I sprayed it with the Contact Cleaner & re-installed. I then pulled apart every electrical connection that I could find under the hood & cleaned them with the QD. The battery was disconnected for probably 2 hours - because I also replaced the negative terminal lead. The car has a full tank of premium fuel, I added a can of STP Fuel Injection Cleaner.
Started the car & pulled out of my driveway - SES still on (AutoZone did not clear). I believe it is in limp mode - but I didn't know "limp mode" existed. Can't get any RPMs at all. I pulled over & disconnected the MAF to see if that would do anything. It didn't. I limped the car home & looked at the connections - all seemed tight. During that time, I disconnected & re-connected the MAF too. Now, the car won't idle unless the MAF is disconnected. It cranks, starts, then stalls.
I pulled the MAF again. I think I might of originally re-installed it before the contact cleaner dried. I sprayed it with QD & have it sitting in the house.
I don't know what to do, & I 'm looking for some help. Is there anyway to clear my ECU without a reader? Disconnecting the battery for an hour or 2 didn't do it. Should I go longer, or disconnect the ECU? Also - does it sound like I've damaged the MAF? I know if I go the the dealer or a shop, I'll pay through the nose for one. I've seen then on-line for about $125, but I hate to spend that if I don't need to - I just spent over $700 having all the other work done. I'm overdue for state inspection & I have to get it fixed so the SES doesn't come on.
I know I am brand new here - but I am grateful for any advice - please help!
