02 sentra xe starts, but dies soon after.

Here's the deal, The car starts and idles like shit for a few seconds and then it dies.
I had diagnostics ran on it at autozone, The dude there said it was runnng too lean.
He suggested that I change the o2 sensors, spark plugs, and fuel filter. I checked the spark plugs, and besides being a little black at the ends they look fine. I had diagnostics ran last december at the nissan dealer because the service engine light was always on (and still is) I remember they said something about an EVAP problem, whatever that is,
I never had it fixed. Could that be the problem ? I need to figure out what exactly is causing this. I don't want to go buy o2 sensors and have the problem be something else.
The dude at autozone said your supposed to change o2 sensors every 90,000 miles.
My sentra has 94,xxx miles. That's the first time I ever heard of something like that.
I thought you only changed o2 sensors when they go bad.

They get worn out after a whole 90,000 miles.
It doesnt mean they'l go bad, but dont depend on them working 100% properly either.

If you plan on using this car for everyday driving for more years, it wouldnt hurt to change them.

I need to know where the fuel filter is on my 2002 sentra xe. Also, what is the deal with this whole EVAP thing the guy at the nissan dealer was telling me about. Is there something I should clean ? I need to get this car running. I'm not sure where to start.
Please help !

If I take the air intake off and disconnect the wiring harness that plugs into the side of the air intake, the car will start and idle. If I try reving it, it bogs down and dies. The car will start with the air intake on, but it will only run for a couple seconds and then it dies.
If I try reving it with the air intake on it makes a sort of backfiring noise at the throttle body and dies. I removed the backseat and pulled the sending unit out of the gas tank,
It appears to be fine. I'm assuming the sending unit is also the fuel pump because it has gas lines connecting to it. I disassembled the unit and could not find anything wrong with it, and there is no filter or screen on it that could be clogged. Where the hell is the fuel filter ? what is wrong with this car ? please somebody help !
