IS THERE ANY WAY TO ADJUST THE TIMING ON A 1.8? IF SO PLEASE POST. ANYTHING FOR FREE IS WORTH A SHOT. ALSO IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE THAT I CAN DO FOR ALMOST NOTHING IF NOT VERY CHEAP? THANKS AHEAD OF TIME
Easy on the caps my friend are you mad. LOL. Yes there is a way to bump your timming but..........and this sucks.....its not easy. I dont know all the details but to bump the timming you would have to got to a dealership that is willing to hook you up to the Consult II and do it that way, it is the ONLY way. We dont have the older style "distributor",and someone else should be able to give you the mechanical background on it...hope that helps. About freeing up some free HP we are somewhat at a loss there unless there is something no one has told me about. Which is a possibility.

Sarah: The QR25 and QG18 have direct ignition systems instead of a distributor. Distributorless ignitions use a coil for each spark plug which improves efficiency and emissions and increases power by controlling the timing of the spark. Unlike distributor ignitions where timing can be advanced or retarded by disconnecting the TPS and adjusting the distributor, the only way to advance the timing of a direct ignition system is through the Nissan diagnostic Consult II device, which communicates directly with the ECU.
so ur saying to take the car to a nissan dealer to get it done.. i'm sure with some directions i can do it. i have a 1996 and i still have the normal distributor.. i want to advance my timing..
once advanced i need to run 91 octane ?.. pleasze help

With the new ODB II engines you need to have a computer adjust the timing. With the normal distributor you should be able to just fine, but I don't even know what engine ur running.

yes you can adjust the throttle cable. however it doesn't give you any extra horsepower. it just makes it easier to rev the engine. On my car, the throttle cable was already very tight.
OK, but doesn't anyone make a device that can be hooked up instead of the Consult II to be able to accomplish the same thing?
