Angry Catalytic Converter

Last Wednesday, my 2000 Sentra GXE started illuminating its check engine light without any change in the performance of the engine. At the time, the car had 58,189 miles on it and had been on the road exactly 62 months. Today, my dealer informed me that they need to replace the catalytic converter. The cost, $1,100!!! Fortunately, someone else is picking up the bill (probably taxpayers or consumers).

QUESTIONS:

1) Have any of you late model Sentra owners burned out a cat in as few miles or as little time as I have?

2) When did the auto industry, and there outsource parts manufacturers, start making such crappy catalytic coverters?

... sprey

ok dude first of all 1,100 dallors for a cat converter is the biggest bullshit I have ever heard... If i were u I would just by a high flow cat for about 50-60 bucks off ebay, That way you got a good high proformance cat and you can probably put it on yourself..... But u know if your not paying for it U could always just have a good laugh at whoever is.

What Are Specified Major Emission Control Components?

There are three specified major emission control components,
covered for the first 8 years or 80,000 miles of vehicle use on 1995
and newer vehicles:

* Catalytic converters.

* The electronic emissions control unit or computer (ECU).

* The onboard emissions diagnostic device or computer (OBD).

Can Any Portion of An Emissions Warranty Repair Be Charged to Me?

If you have valid warranty claim, you cannot be charged for any
costs associated with the diagnosis or repair of the problem,
including labor charges, parts, or miscellaneous items that are
necessary to complete the repair. For example, if a manufacturer
agrees to replace a catalytic converter under the emissions warranty,
you should not be charged for the diagnosis of the bad converter, or
any pipes, brackets, adjustments, or labor needed to complete the
replacement.
