having major diagnostic issues with a 2001 nissan sentra, ses light on , occasionally stalls, wont start , tach jumpy. code P0335 for crankshaft position sensor a comes on as a pending code almost as soon as you start the vehicle. the shop that worked on the car before me installed the crank sensor kit that nissan sells as replacement (three pieces, one crank sensor position, one cam sensor phase , and i think a cam sensor phase). when that did not fix, apparently tried to rewire the sensor as a fix, which did nothing as well. to cover myself, i again rewired the sensor, installed three new aformentioned sensors from nissan and still have the same issues. i collected information with a lab scope and am getting a perfect pattern from the crank sensor, a simple on off pattern ranging from 0 to 3.5 volts dc. there are 17 on off signals , then a skip on the 18th, and i assume at 20 degrees each pulse gives me a perfect 360. so no problems mechanically with the crank shaft or electrically with the sensor. i then removed the computer and checked the voltage on the crank signal return inside the computer on the circuit board and i have the same perfect pattern, identical to the one directly out of the crank. but then from the computer to the tach i have again a dc current on/off signal, but at times it is glitchy and drops out when it should not. i am wondering if i could have an intermitten open in the computer before the crank signal gets to the main information transfer (or what ever it would be called). apparently the computer is getting a poor signal and it seems good all the way up to the computer itself, so i deem the computer faulty. can any one help me confirm or figure out what is going on with this nightmare?
i have already checked and retightened numerous grounds and check ignition positive to the sensor as well. any help would be greatly appreciated.
i may have more issues with the computer. just doing some more testing and the car would not even start, and i noticed the ses light not coming on at all. no communication with the scanner. came back 10 minutes later and ses light on with KOEO. pulled P0335 code again but accompanied with P0600-- ecm serial commuincation link malfunction..... ARRRGH!!!
I am having the same problem with my 2002 Sentra, I took it to the dealer and they did some recalls, the power problem is better but now the tach jumps and it feels like the engine is surging. I have another appointment on Thursday at a different dealer. The first dealer was a snake, and he told me it was the unified instrument meter! Does that part even exist???
I have been told it is probably the computer and that Nissan Warranties that for 80,000 miles or 8 years.
I also put some really good engine cleaner in it and it seem to run a little better. I don't know much about the newer cars, but I am learning. I will let everyone know what fixes my problem!
I am having the same problems, Just sent it to the Dealer and they are replacing the computer. I won't know until next week if it works or not but they are doing it free of charge because it is still in warranty. I also found out that the crank sensors that need to be installed are not the ones they sell off the shelf, they are recall sensors and the dealer has them, you have to be specific to get the right ones. I would suggest taking it to a dealer and have them do all of the recalls. IF that doesnt fix the problem, tell them to check the computer. That's what I did, and they are replacing it because it is still under warranty ( 8 yrs 80,000 miles). There are other things that fall under the 8 yr warranty too, like the cadilidic converter, and some other things. Nissan is having problems with the computers, It wouldn't suprise me if they recall it too.

appreciate your reply, i had a feeling that it would be the computer. i am getting too perfect of a pattern from the sensors, so i thought the computer might be going caput. also it wouldnt start, because the computer wasnt grounding the ecm relay, another reason i thought it might be the computer. thanks!! let me know what happens with yours!
I got my car back and they put a new ecm in the car...runs much better, still having some issues, they wanted 459.00 to do the 45K maintenence...UUGGHH! So now my hubby is doing a quick tune up and oil change. I need to replace the fuel filter. I show that it is in the tank, Has anyone replaced this yet???? I need a little instruction on where it is and how to replace it. I am hoping that we don't have to drop the tank.

2001 Sentra fuel filter is not replaceable, it is part of the fuel pump nad is sold as a unit. been there done that.
WE have had problems with the PCM failing internally. You may want to take it to the dealer cause we know about this. Crank sensor recall should of been done free of charge too.
I have a engine problem with my sentra gxe 2001 (1.8l engine)....it stars - no problem - but in idle it is shaking crazy.....I was told that it is a ignition problem with one injector (1) and having replaced the computer it would solv the problem.....has anyone another idea what is going on!?
yup, there is a widely known issue with the ECU or the ECM or whatever you want to call it, failing on these model Sentras. And it is not just confined to the QG, but also the QR's as well. The newer Sentras have yet to exhibit such problems. (These are differentiated by a totally different ECM design). I even had the pleasure of getting a brand new ECM, and finding out it was already no good.
