This has happened twice now, the first time it threw both O2 sensor codes, and same with today. The first time it was gas from Kwik Trip (if you've ever heard of their crapped out gas), and now this time I had BP gas in the car. Checked the gas cap, good. I usually use Citgo gas and haven't had a code get thrown from them yet. Got the codes cleared both times at AutoZone, with the time from the first to the last being about 3-4 months. Car runs fine, just wondering if it's actually the gas, or if it's my O2 sensors crapping out or what. Car has like 73,000 miles on it, and it's a 2001 GXE.
the gas cap being faulty would not set o2 codes, and i cant see bad gas causing that as well. a faulty gas cap would set either a large or small evap leak code. evap is something that has been implemented to reduce hydro-carbons escaping the gas tank and/or gas lines (etc. gas cap) into the ozone. the oxygen sensor codes specifically deal with the mixture being combusted in your engine and your catalytic converters ability to reduce other emissions before its spit out into the atmosphere. where the codes for lean oxygen sensor conditions or rich?

this could mean a couple of things. you could possibly need a fuel filter or have your fuel pressure checked to see if you have a faulty fuel pump. you could have a vacuum leak that is letting in un-metered and un-wanted air into the mixture. if your car is running rich, puffing black smoke out the tail pipe then more than likely you have a lean biased o2 sensor, but i doubt that both your upstream and downstream sensors would go lean biased at the same time. my first guess would be a vacuum leak or a clogged fuel filter, especially if you live in a densely populated area that may have different blends of fuel to try and help out with emissions. i saw this all the time in st. louis.

That's funny if it's the fuel filter, because I did the 68,000 mile maintenance deal with the dealership and that was included in getting changed... We'll see how much they ACTUALLY did. Bastards! Thanks a lot. So far it has not come back on, and I'm using the normal fuel that I usually have. No other abnormal things are happening except the stupid light coming on. The area I live in is probably around 80,000 pop or so.
