2005 1.8S auto - 5sp auto???

I know all the documentation states that it is a 4sp auto, but I have counted the shift points multiple times, and I keep coming up with 4 shift points, which would mean a 5sp auto, unless Nissan is doing something with the transaxle gearing away from the main gears. Has anyone else noticed this, or heard anything about something that gives the appearance of a gear shift?

it's a 4sp auto w/overdrive. it is definitely, I repeat, positively not a 5sp automatic.

go to nissanusa.com and tell me where it says ANY sentra comes with a 5 speed auto. You've gotta be psychotic to think that they'd put a 5speed auto in the base model car.

I agree, it says everywhere that it is a 4 speed with Overdrive, but Overdrive is supposed to be the 4th gear. If you are saying that it has four gears PLUS an Overdrive gear, then that would make it a 5 speed, but that is NOT what is typically meant by a 4 sp auto with Overdrive. What I am really wondering is if there is something in the differential that lowers the drive ratio for the Overdrive gear after the tranny get there, and that is the fourth shift point I'm feeling. I'll get the RPM changes for the shifts, and the approximate speeds it is happening at. From there I can figure out some gearing ratios.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Your Torque convertor Locking once at Highway speed often feels like another gear.. My 94 Cavy feels like its got 4 when its only a 3spd.

You have 4 gears + overdrive. Stop making something simple complicated. Youre sentra is not some accident that got a 5spd transmission its just liek everyone elses, so please stop waisitng time.
