I have a sentra 1.8l 2003 GXE model. Whats the best oil to use and the best oil filter that you guys recommend. I just began to buy Castrol Gtx but the engine isn't running as quiet as it used to. Someone told me that I might need valve timing adjustments, someone said oh all japanese engines run like that. It sounds normal I mean I hear it from every japanese engine but for some reason I don't feel it was making that noise at 15000 kms when I bought the thing.

Virtually all SM rated motor oils are suitable for the Sentra. Take your pick from Pennzoil, Havoline (or Chevron), Mortorcraft or Castrol (just watch the pour point of Castrol if you live in a colder climate) and change it regularly and you should be in good shape. Because of the small sump size I wouldn't recommend pushing your oil change interval past 5K for conventional oil or 7500 for Synthetic.
IMO, one of the best oil filters you can buy for the price is a NAPA Gold (made by Wix). If your on a tighter budget, I would recommend Wal-Mart's Supertech line of filters (they are economical and have respectable filtering capabilities).
the QG does not ever need valve adjustments. You must have heard that from a honda owner.
I run mobil 1 10w30 with a K&N oil filter.
I run Mobil 1 5w30 cold climate, 10w30 hot climate. I use NAPA GOLD Series filters and they work great. I'd recommend it, but like dsfolk said, if your in a budget use them. They'll get the job done.

Is changing the oil viscosity from 10w30 to 5w30 effect the engine? I use 5w30 all year long... is that alright? How much do those Napa filters usually go for cause I work for FORD and we get a discount from them which is alright. Unfortunately I never heard of Chevron before....but I do my oil changes even though they recommend every 6k in the owners manual I do it every 4-4.5k.

Changing weight will not have any affects and 5W30 all year is fine. I hope you have heard of the company of Chevron (including Texaco/Caltex) before even if not their oil? They are the only oil refining company that did not need to reformulate their gasoline to meet the Top Tier standards. GM trucks the stuff up to their headquarters and tests their vehicles solely on this. Chevron makes the best gas, best fuel additives, and probably the best dino oil.

Thanks for all your input. I noticed the other day my drain plug was leaking :S just replaced the copper with a rubber gasket and that did the job but I don't trust the rubber very much. I'm thinking of grabbing a new drain plug.
