I own a Nissan 00 Primera out of Japan it came with a QG18 and CVT transmission. This car pings like crazy...I tried relocating the knock sensor like a previous "thread" mention....wherby I remove it off of the block and ground it off to complete the circuit as the "knock sensor" was too sensentive....however that did not work....i have been ask to ensure that i run the proper gas octane...well I do...i run the higest available in the country and that did not stop it either, I was also ask to run an octane boost..like 104+ not the cheap stuff....and that also did not work...I ahve also run the car through several code readers...but they come up empty...no codes....the troubling thing is that my neighbor has one and his does not ping at alllllll....so i know that there is something that is wrong with "MY" car.....but i do not know what it is ...and i hate to waste money....like buy a sensor and change it and same problem....i don't want to gut out my engine with sensors and replace them with the same problem.
well, replace the knock sensor, as that is never an issue in the QG18DE. If anything, the knock sensor would PREVENT ping.
I think the pinging is from something else than the fuel.....
Ok....I will replace the knock sensor...do you happen to know the part number???.....and if after I put in the new one..."just if" it still knocks...what to you have up your sleeve??....you mentioned "that it may be something other than fuel"...are you thinking it is more that the knock sensor???

Son, I live in Jamaica and I managed to get a 2001 nissan sunny/sentra (not the pulsar type) with the QG18dd & hyperCVT tranny. It sounds as if you have one of these and not the QG18DE. If this is true you would have direct injection and Variable Valve timing and that would result in a bit more engine noise than the others. If I am wrong however, please reply with your findings. Oh and if you have your Check Engine LIght come on anytime in the future and the mech. says it is the MAF, don't buy it, surely it is the ECU's mass air flow circuit screwing around. So get the ECU fixed or replaced.
Jamaican!!!, I live in Trinidad...and you are correct...my engine is QG18dd with a CVT tranny.....but as far as the pinging any ideas??...no check engine light is on.....the last (first) time that it ever came on it was the "crank angle" sensor....that was replaced and "A" ok...so what do i do about the sensor....nothing bout the gas please...i am using the right gas....the weird thing is that it pings sometimes....with the AC off not on...and if it pings with the AC on i guess is because I can't hear it....
I am at a point where I would replace any sensor once it would work....I have ordered a knock sensor as a previous thread stated...so untill I change it i'll advise if it works.

I've got the problem with the check engine light and the mechanic's trying to tell me it's the MAF sensor, but I'm not believing them. How can I know it's the ECU that needs fixed/reprogrammed and not an oxygen sensor? Thanks!

I have the exact problem as you do, if it was th MAF your car would not rev pass 2400 rpm. I know this because I have lost a MAF before and that was the result. In addidtion to that I Nissan told me it was my MAF and I bought one and it was the same result. So now I have 2 MAF, one as spare I guess. The ecu, in my opinion is fine and that leaves the oxegen sensor. My car seems to be dumping excess fuel into the cylinders triggering the SES light, you may try this and let me know, I do before youm i'll give you the info.
