level 10 shiftronic vs transmission swap

yeh i know the level 10 shiftronic is going to be cheaper but is it worth it or is it garbage? Is it any good with the stock auto tranny on the 1.8 or should it be modified first before getting it.....i know that for a fact that a manual swap would be not only costly but timely and will void the warantee of the car...but has anyone here with an auto ever thought about getting this product or if u already have one how it is workin for ya?

shiftronic? what is that?

when you build the transmission to handle more power, you build the transmission. It doesn't give you tiptronic shifting or any crap like that, it makes the shifts firmer and more responsive and makes the tranny itself stronger to handle more power.

Personally, I cannot see much reason to buy something like Shiftronic. The most I can see it doing is just maybe altering gear ratios, but nowhere near what a full manual can do. Reason being is because the gears are still controlled (and regulated) by the transmission's computer, and will most likely cut off near red-lining.

It makes little sense to spend 500 bucks behind something that won't let you enjoy benefits of a full manual such as redlining, and to have just a tad more control over your engine. There's a reason why there are two distinct transmissions; anything in between does little...trust me on this.

My friend's Intrepid is tiptronic (not shiftronic...but I cannot see much of a difference), and the difference is almost nothing. I noticed nothing, and felt nothing. Pretty lame. Stick with what you have and do it up!

I thought tiptronic was what BMW and AUDI have, its like the thing the preludes had, you can change from clutchless manual to auto just by moving the shifter over.

btw...shifts aren't fully controlled by the tranny...the ECU plays a big part.

That looks like it would be fun to have, I hate the shift points on my auto. It also says, "The controller also offers you the option of changing how hard the trans shifts, and allows the driver to lock the torque converter on deceleration for real engine braking-like a manual shift transmission."

This seems way better over stock. I wouldn't mind getting one and a bigger tranny cooler just in case. But for the price i'll hold off.

trans swap

ok my mom has a 2004 mercedes benz c230 sport kompressor with this shiftronic thingy its kool an all but its not a manual. It honestly in my opinion is just like shifting in an automatic using high and low gears. but thats not the reason why i posted this. I am planning on doing a transmission swap for my 98 nissan maxima se. right now i have an auto, but i really want a 5 speed so if anyone knows were i can get all the parts needed let me know please!

give it a shot and see. personally, a full tranny build would be better than that.

A full tranny rebuild will also cost thousands.
