Problem with folding rear seat in '02 Sentra XE

In the trunk of my Sentra are two latches on either side for the rear seats to fold down. However, when the left-side latch is pulled, nothing happens. The seat will not pull down at all. I want to take it to Nissan, but am scared they might damage my car audio amplifier (it's an Audiobahn), which is on the back of the left rear seat. Has this happened to anyone?

Thanks.
