06/02/05) HEMPSTEAD - A Baldwin woman said Thursday her identity was stolen by a Hempstead car dealership.
Danita Burton says she thought she was getting a great deal on a new car at Major Nissan on Franklin Avenue. However, Burton’s attorney says the dealership sent an application to his client’s lender stating she was actually purchasing a more expensive car.
The attorney says Capital One then approved a second application without questioning paperwork that showed an inflated figure for Burton’s income. In addition, the attorney claims signatures on the documents didn’t match.
Major Nissan says it doesn’t condone forgery and plans to question the finance manager. A spokesperson with the Nassau County District Attorney Frauds Bureau says anyone who purchased a vehicle from the dealership should ask for a copy of their loan application to make sure they weren’t victimized.
