Since I've modified my Pathfinder, my city gas mileage is up 1.3 mpg and acceleration is more brisk. I plan on keeping my truck for many years, therefore I consider it a good return on my investment.
If you have no interest in performance modifications, that's cool. What purpose does it serve to knock owners modifying their vehicles??
there is no performance gained with that mod thats what im getting at. its a waste of money... and as far as saying your car is running leaner and thats reason enough to buy it, is purely insane. the 10-15hp gain they claim is bogus and youll never see a difference its a placebo effect a sugar pill, believe me ive owned several cars and ive done serious modding to some of them and youre throwing money out the window.

Are you saying an engine which breathes better has no effect? Do you also think turbochargers don't work either? Your personal experiences don't make it so. Perhaps in your situation the original filter was not a retriction.
i doubt the hp gains but there is... you may just use a drop in filter by k and n... or use a weapon r intake it's better.

truth hurts? id like to see you dyno your pos pathfinder before and after your sick mod... and tell me how much HP is gained at the wheels... if anything youll have faster acceleration because your pockets are lighter... maybe next youll do some sick dual exhaust mods or remove the cats, maybe even change the injectors???

And maybe you install a used Pamper for an air filter, since you seem to think it doesn't matter.
I've put the k&n,s in the stock filter housings of my 3 an 87 aerostar,88 pathy,92 sentra.I ve had it in the ford for 4 years now and noticed a difference in mileage and it stopped pinging on regular unleaded. The sentra gained roughly 2.5 mpg the pathfinder 1.5 mpg so to say they are worthless has no merit.I've tryed many mods in 33 years of driving and this one of the least expensive and seems to work as claimed so if you think it works for you use it if you do not don't use it.

no; i installed a k&n drop in filter, only because it was time for a new filter and i didnt want to replace it with a standard paper one... however i didnt do it because of performance or hp gains... its pointless to think these filters give you any sort of gains... and saying your car runs dramatically leaner and youre saving gas is ridiculous but hey its your money your cars enjoy ill bow out...

I've never said it runs leaner and I don't recall anyone else saying so. If they did, I believe they would be incorrect, based on my understanding of EFI. Besides, it wouldn't be good to run too lean as this tends to burn parts.
Personally, I went with the drop-in as well. My original reasons were economics (reusable versus disposable). I did noticed a difference, not in mpg as I tend to lead foot a bit and would have been surprised if it had, but the excelleration is smoother and quicker - not a dramtic difference, but still noticable.
My understanding of the advantages K&N and other "performance" filters is that they provide better air flow. This doesn't mean a leaner mixture though as the ECU will adjust the injector pulses based on the MAF and O2 sensors, but it should then produce more power. If the open filter (being discussed here) breathes better than the drop-in, it should be that much better. Another advantages I see to this mod is easier access to filter and elimination of the air box which can be home to mice and chipmunks - I know this for a fact. Plus, some like the look. That may sound like a waste of money to you, I feel that way about chrome valve covers, but to each his or hers own.
my pathfinder is sitting in the garage weeping over your comment. SHAME ON YOU. u hurt its feelings i think it deserves an apology...lol its not a POS yet

i wana know if u dont want the k&n for performance or hp gaines, then y spend the extra $$? i mean ur whole point aganist it is that its a waste of money, if so then y not just buy another paper filter since there is no difference and save some cash right?

it was part of the 60k service to change the air filter, they happen to have it in the parts dept as opposed to the paper one. i opted to get it only to have a slightly more throaty sound upon acceleration thats it. (and if i keep the car long enough to not have to buy another paper filter)
