knocking/rattleing from tailgate

I have this knocking/rattleing coming from the back tailgate of my 02 pathfinder. it happens when going on bumps and/or turning at a corner at a higher than normal speed. I have taken it to the dealer but as usual they were no help. they claimed it was my plate frame. i took it off and drove around and the same problem. I do not want to bother taking it back to them because they will give me some other bullshit to avoid their labor. I have opened up the tailgate cover a bit to see if there is anything loose or floating around in there but didnt see anything. i had the same problem with my 94 passport years ago and the dealer said it was a loose screw or somthing like that. anyone have a similar prob?

i have that same exact problem on my 01, i always thought it was the license plate cover. i guess not. maybe its because nissan only has 2 screw holes for the license plates instead of four. prolly when ur goin over a bumb the top of the plate is held in tight but the bottom smacks the trunk. im gana try and figure out a solution for myne too because its annoying....MAybe super glue?!?

Just Fixed Same Problem on my '95

I recently acquired a '95 Pathfinder LE with just over 80k miles. After driving it about a month, the rear door rattle problem you've described developed. It was only noticable at low speeds and on bumpy roads. I fixed the problem by loosening the two bolts on the rear door striker (the metal "hoop" at the rear center of the hatch opening). Just loosen the bolts enough that the striker will not move freely. I adjusted the striker forward by tapping it with a hammer, then retightened the two bolts. No more rear door rattle. Hope this helps.
