So, the battery was replaced a few months ago, a new starter was installed and all was well for a week. Then today, my wife reported that her beloved Pathfinder failed to start. This time it was cranking (different from the last issue where power was on, but the engine wouldn't crank at all) but not starting.
The really weird thing is that she said she took the key out and it still was trying to start.

Has anyone got a clue on this?
I had a problem with a different vehicle, not our PF, that sounds like this. The solenoid in the car's starter stuck in the engaged position, resulting in it continuously cranking until I removed a battery terminal. It wouldn't start because the starter was still engaged and limiting the revs. It wouldn't turn off because the starter engages current for itself when the solenoid moves. So it just sat there cranking away, making horrid noises and vibrating. Seeking an answer was a wild goose chase because it's rare for starters to jam in the engaged position. Usually they don't do anything if they're defective, and everyone I consulted with led me astray. Hope this helps.

Hmmm... The starter was replaced within the last week. As far as I know, the solenoid is attached to the starter, so that was replaced as well.
The main thing that concerns me is that when this happened in the past, you would get power when you put the key in, but when you went to start the truck it wouldn't do anything. No clicking, no attempt to start at all.
Does anyone have any idea what would keep the starter from attempting to start? What checks does the computer do before firing the starter?
I have somewhat of a similar problem in my celica. it would crank but the engine woudnt turn over, however, unlike your problem it stopped when i stopped turning the key. the problem was the solenoid was stuck. all i did was take a hammer or other hard, solid object and tap the solenoid a few times and voila the engine turned over. I hope this helps any and if not then its useful information just in case .
