Unhappy 95 Nissan Pathfinder Diagnose Please..

I recently purchased the 95 Nissan pathfinder SE v6 automatic..
My problem is that it Shifts hard and Late, I have replaced the filter in the tranny.(didnt help) took it to a trannyman and he said that it wasnt showing any codes..(on the computer thinggy) He told me to replace the Throttle body Position sensor..(didnt Work)..I really like the vehiacal just cant fix it..lol
any suggestion would be helpful..PS I also was told to drain the memory in the ecu by holding the battery cables to gether for 30 sec..still nothing. It runs goo just shifts at the redline and shifts hard in 1st and second.

More than likely .. that Pathfinder was previously wrecked.. mine was.. (ran into a tree while trying to get away from cops) because my 94 SE V6 auto does the same damn thing. Took it to one of my better friends ... a mechanic who also rebuilds and fixes transmissions, he drove it, did everything you said.. and then some. to little avail... it shifts a lot better but... the lag to red line on heard accelleration is annoying and harmful to the motor in the long run. I can push it beyond redline.. found out by accident... when i was in a hurry for something, redlines on this particular VG30 motor is 6000... i pushed it to about 6500. Thanked anyone who was listening to me that it didnt go beyond and break something (now i understand why the redline was placed there.. damn thing has no power beyond 5900) lol. Its obviously your transmission, or something relating to its shifting. Even though it runs smoothly now.. we know that its going to break down at some point... Go for a rebuild, or get a second opinion. Rebuild would be your safest bet.. because buying a brand new transmission for that thing is not cheap! i Say its a safebet because that kind of shifting will ruin it eventually. unless you got connections...for cheap trannys.

Well I dont think it is the Tranny...
I think it is one of the hundreds of sensors on the thing...I am currently lookin for a Transmission solenoid connector On mine but I cant find it..I was told to check that. and another one I cant remember the name of it now..
Getting a little agravated though. It runs out smooth but 2nd gear will jerk your head off.

All the time? or just when its cold? because on both of my nissans that i drive (sentra and pathfinder) they jerk when they are cold...after a couple mins they run just fine. Also another thing i forgot to mention, does your "AT" light next to your cruise control button light up orange while you are accelerating hard?

Mine jerks quite hard too going from 1st to second gear. Gets a little better once the car warms up, but right off the bat its noticable. It kind of worries me. Would there be any price difference if I just got it looked at and rebuilt with the nissan factory recommended modifications now, or just wait till it loses a gear or something and then do it... I dont want to rebuild it unless i have to, especially if its going to cost over 2 grand!

another weird thing is, that when i floored it while i was going about 20mph it didn't seem like to hard of a shift or anything that would jolt the tranny, but the jerking thing cleared up till i parked the car and came back a while later.

Jarek: Are you saying this is not really something I should worry about too much? since both your nissans do this?

On my sentra... i should know better than driving it cold...lol but its still a rough tranny for being a new car

on the pathfinder: i wouldnt worry too much, unless you do some major offroading... then beef up the transmission. You wouldnt want it breaking down for instance in the middle of a sand dune....The transmission on these pathys can go "crippled" for a while before any kind of breaking down occurs... but if you notice nothing other than funny shifting...and hopefully your not loosing fluid... then you should be fine...88pathoffroad would know more and probably you should consult him... especially about a "transmission cooler" (basically its an aftermarket radiator for transmission fluid) since the stock radiators are known to get plugged up with fluid after so long. i will eventually be purchasing one of these ... see if that helps the over heating issues im having... as well as a fan clutch.

Thats just my opinion... anyone have a bit?

PS: and for being so crippled still hauls ass lol... ill take a pic one of these days..

Check your transmission ground strap first(an improperly grounded tranny will give you problems), then try running the transmission computer codes listed on this page on my forums:

Sir, not to disrespect you, if you dont know what your looking at, let someone that does, its hard for people to work with you when you know nothing about what they talk of.
Take it to a garage and let them give you a quote.
