I have a 2001 Pathfinder 3.5SE with just 52,000 miles on it. About 3 months ago the check engine light came on. I got it diagnosed and was told it was the oxygen sensor in Bank 2 Sensor 2. I got it replaced for $240. just three months later I now have the check engine light on AGAIN. Got is diagnosed and now they say it is the oxygen sensor Bank 1 Sensor 2. Another $250 to get it replaced. Are you kidding me with this? Is this normal? 52,000 miles and BOTH sensors are supposedly bad? Any thoughts on the legitimacy on this? Is this common in these vehicles? I have never heard of such nonsense with any car I have ever had or any car any of my friends or family have had either! Very frustrated.
It more common than you might think, but replacing them isn't always necessary. You can remove the sensor and cook it with a propane torch for a short time to remove carbon deposits, that may bring it back to life.

The CEL is set by logic on O2 sensors it counts cross counts, and when the O2 is slow or out of range it sets that light. Nissan has always had a prob with O2, just like everyone else. you may try and run a ground wire from the intake to the exhaust manifold, lowering the resistance on the ground side of the circuit and this helps speed up cross counts there is an actual TSB out for this and it works. Most likely they were bad this will help prevent failure of the new O2s.
There are 4 O2 sensors on 01 Pathfinder: from and back/passenger and driver side.
They are realtively easy to replace, you'll need a special wrench. Before you do, check the resistance with a digital ohm meter to make sure it is faulty.
MSN Autos states the following that also can be a problem, I personally have not look into this, yet. I had my one of Check Engine light replaced while still in the warranty, but it cam back on soon after that and it has been on since them, which is about 3-4 years now - still ger 19-20 miles on the freway so I don't think ist's the sensor. Actualy it is on intermitently, when my wife drives it it tends to be off, so go figure. Funny thing is, the dealer once told me this body style was redisigned to suite chicks not guys.

Funny thing is, I have noticed more chicks driving PF than guys only after I actually bought one... Oh, I have two bad rear O2 sensors on my 01 PF too..
