2001 vibration at high speeds after serpentine belts replaced
Got the serpentine belts replaced on my 2001. They did it super fast i mean in and out in like half hour including the time to find the right belts
Even since it is just as quiet and smooth at lower speeds but once i hit 45+ it is slightly louder vibrates. Is there some adjustment that the shop could have forgotten? Like the tension in the belt? I brought it back to the same shop who literally looked at for once second with the car off and said its fine its cause i have "mud and snow" tires but they are two years old and its running much rougher than it was before so that makes no sense for an explanation. New shop i knew nothing about just happened to be next to my work i regret the decision now. When i look parked it looks totally fine and properly installed the same as before i am wondering if its a bolt or something else vibrating?
suggestions would be greatly appreciated
It is louder and more vibration than before at high speeds but seems to be running fine so i hate to spend the money to bring it somewhere else unless we think its necessary. I never noticed this much vibration at high speeds before
Serpentine belts have spring tensioners to control the belt tension. The serpentines that I've replaced simply required a wrench and some leverage to release the tension, then pull the belt off and install the new one in the same orientation.
Sure, it could be a bad or wrong belt, don't know how likely. Now: did the shop replace either the tensioner/pulley or an idler pulley when they did this? That could account for your issue.
Strike up another reason to learn to do simple service like this yourself !!!
I got the spark plugs replaced unrelated but we can rule that out
I noticed its the loudest/vibrates the most at 45-55mph and it really goes from nothing to vibration right around 45mph. After 55 it gets quieter and vibrates less the faster you go.
The vibration is the exact same if the engine is running high or in neutral its the speed of the car.
Could this be allignment or wheels needing balancing? Transmission? I am thinking its probably a coincidence of the belts being replaced now but that still might be it. Before i pay would love some feedback or advice what to target and look for
wonder if the crank pulley is separating, with the vehicle running (BE CAREFULL!) have a LOOK (NO HANDS) at the pulley for any wobble, if not. might check for snow/mud on the back side of your wheels, lost wheel weights, check your driveshaft (u-joints), broken motor/trans mounts
The pulley looks fine to me. It doesnt not make any vibration or sounds at lower speeds.
It is starting to drive me crazy since where i live the speed limit is 45 on so many long roads if i go too fast i risk a ticket and when i roll at like 40 people go crazy and act like im not moving.
Not sure if this is helpfull. Find a deserted road. When vibration occurs shift the trans to neutral to see if you can confirm if vibration is comming from the engine, tires or drivetrain. Also check motor mounts.
If i am going 47mph and shift into nuetral but maintaine the same speed it is the exact same. If i am going up a steep hill and the RPMs are really high and still below 45mph there is nothing.
Does anyone think this is possibly just alignment? No wheel weights show to be missing.

Based on your first sentence the vibration is not comming from your engine. Its your drive train or tires. If it were me I would rotate the tires and see if you still have the problem. If you do its the drivetrain.

okay thanks for the advice. It could still be the alignment if i do that though couldnt it?

If you had the spark plugs replaced the same time when the belt was also replaced, it may be possible that a plug wire may have been put back on the wrong spark plug. Just for the hell of it, check the firing order.
It is not the spark plugs. I needed to replace those anyway since they are the originals so i did that. The vibration/sound is exactly the same after new plugs.
I am wondering if i should rotate the tires, balance, or check the alignment first? or change the transmission fluid?
I was also told at one shop to change the differential oil as that can cause a sound when old.....im thinking thats not it since it goes away at higher speeds?
Is it just me, or does the majority overlook the obvious?
Somebody ate a whole bag of dumbass for breakfast.
Why do people continue to run a vehicle when a warning light comes on or starts flashing? Isn't that a clue that something is wrong and you probably should NOT drive it?
Is this whole car driving thing really freekin' brain surgery?
Here's something new for the crowd/clowns...
"A little bit of Google goes a long way!"
Ever notice the one post wonders for info on turbo'ing a GA16 are never heard from again after they figure out the cost???
And if you can read this, you don't need glasses! :)
so i had the nissan dealer look at the belts they said it looked fine and probably just a coincidence. I had the tires balanced and alignment done and no change.
The nissan deal wanted $120 for a test drive to isolate the problem however just for the diagnosis and their prices are crazy high as we all know.
Did my own test drive and realized it is pretty much below my drivers seat. Inspected and found the transfer case felt a little loose. Went to a shop and they told me its the U joints. One was shot and one needed replaced so i decided to have them replace both. They did the work and then said it felt the exact same and its the transfer case itself vibrating and making the sound. They are giving me the ujoint at half price because they needed replaced anyway and now want to install a used transfer case. Does this sounds reasonable? Is this something that needs to be totally replaced rather than fixed? The 4WD and transfer has been working just fine i have had absolutely no problems or anything noticeable shifting and the sound is the same in 2wd or 4wd. They say they are sure this is the problem and its best to just replace the transfer case with a used one. I have never had any problems shifting between 2WD or 4WD and the vibration was the same in any drive mode. Are they making the right repair or should i have used the nissan dealership. The transfer case is expensive i think somewhere around $700 installed. I live in a rural area and most options are a pretty decent drive away so i really appreciate any feedback. They are installing the transfer case on monday it arrived friday in the mail. should i stop them or does it sounds reasonable? They "gurantee" this will fix it but im getting scared to have them do this now.

Have you ever checked for vibration when the car is standing still and in neutral; rev the engine up to around 2,000 to 3,000 rpm and feel for the same vibration. If there's no vibration, you can rule out any problems with the engine.
