2001 pahty strut bound bumper

Just noticed both right and left front strut bound bumpers (item 6)are broken.

The strut and coil seem to be doing fine, should the boot be replace immediately?

Could the strut be going bad so it pulled the boot apart?

Anyone had this problem before and what could be causing this?

thx.

Mine was the same way. Then I did some close inspection on the strut itself and found some fluid leak as well. Then I replaced the strut on both sides.. reused the springs.

I bought KYB GR-2 struts, KYB rear shocks, SPICER/RAYBESTOS (part# 5201345) for the strut mount kit from RockAuto. I installed my self in my garage.. but it was a real PITA... highly recommend going to a shop get those installed.

I found leak at the base of the strut where the inner piston comes out of the cylinder. It was wet at the bottom portion of the strut as well.. from what I see from your pic, if thats the only problem with you strut, I wouldn't hurry and replace yet.. the exposed portion of the cylinder will collect dust and that dust can damage the seal below and can possibly cause leaks in the future, if not leaking already.

These struts are not hard to replace on your own if you have the proper tools and have a couple hours to do it...Send me a message if you want a write up...

laxman...haha..funny finding you hear, anyway. You don;t 'need' this boot. I don't have it, and it passes inspection fine. It has nothing to do with safety, it's just there to help 'prolong' the life of the strut. what it can do being broken is pool water in the bottom and cause your strut to fail that way (over time). So its either replace it or just remove it all together.
