whiney 92 pathfinder

I have a 92,v6,4x4 with an automatic and ive been getting an odd type of whine coming from what seems to me is the water pump area.This sound is generally more pronounced at start up(not every start though) and tapers off some once it reaches operating temperature,but even then it still whines,fading in and out at idle.If i take a screwdriver and touch the cover over where my A/C adjustment pulley is and i swear i can feel this whine through the screwdriver.(sounds goofy...i know).The truck runs fine other than this weird sound.You folks here have helped me out a few times now and it is appreciated.Just thought id throw another question your way.Thanks.

Remove one V-belt at a time to isolate the noise.

How many miles are on it, and have you ever had the timing belt and water pump replaced? Pumps have been known to go out, and the timing belt idler pulley under the timing cover can wear out.

Just got the truck last october and i dont know the maintenance history.It has 219,000 km.(I think about 130k miles).I was changing the v belts this evening and i cant take the tension off of the A/C belt.Had a hell of a time with the adjusting bracket for the power steering pump also(rusted solid).
