Question 92 Intermit Bogging/Rough Idle

Just made the big switch from 4Runner to Pathfinder and loving the new truck but just after I got it having a problem. Hopefully someone can help me with this one, it's driving me nuts.

Info:
1992
5 speed
178 XXX kms

When I first got it a few weeks ago I would drive it for about 9 mins and then once it seemed the temp got up a little the engine would start bogging down and idle rough at about 500 RPM. I had to keep it over 2500 RPM to make sure it have enough power to go. Drive it like that for 5 mins and the problem would stop. If I stopped (engine off) for 15 mins or so it would do it again, for about 5 mins then it would be over. Here is a few things Ive noticed..

-If Im driving fast (over 80 km/h or 50mph) it doesnt matter how long I drive the bogging/low power doesnt go away until I slow down for a bit. Then it stops.

-No warnings or codes shown or stored

-If I pull over and press in (up) on the EGR valve and let 'er choke out for 5 secs the problem goes away until the next time I stop (engine off) for a few minutes.

-The engine seems to "retard" when decelerating to about 1000 RPM (might be normal Ive never owned a Nissan)

-Also has an exhaust leak, sounds like at/near the cat. Not sure if that would contribute.

If anyone can help me zero in on this it would be awsome. Its driving me nuts and one day Im gonna hit the gas in an intersection and get caked. Plus I doubt that rough/rich idle is good for the engine, and the high RPM is kicking my butt and the pumps. Im not sure where to start, 02 sensor, EGR , PCV, exhaust...
Plus it seems to be getting worse a little.

Thanks in advance,

Matt

Hey Matt I've got an 88Pathy and have similar symptoms but mine may be more progressed I replaced all vaccuum lines, and TPS but have the same results Another symptom that I have,is one exhaust manifold is HOT while the other exhaust manifold is warm at best I have performed several tests after comming up with code 55 no malfunction on the ECU...Here is my problem I have an intake manifold gasket leak and need to rip it out and replace it considering I got this Nissan for free because the previous owner gave up on looking for the problem Which is an eratic idle after warming up 1250 RPM to 1750RPM accompanied by a backfire Thats my story and I'm stickin to it lol GOOD LUCK
