Oil consumption on a 03 pathfinder

I have an 03 pathfinder with 58K miles. I've had it for a year now and notice it's down about a quart of oil in between oil changes. Right now I've put about 2K miles since the last oil change and it's down about 3/4 of a quart. The dealer says 1quart every 800 - 1000 miles is normal.
Is that true? I find that a little hard to believe that you would burn 1 -2 quarts of oil every few thousand miles.

I've seen the posts about the PCV valve problems but I haven't checked mine yet.

'03 Pathy, 117k kms/73k miles. Just changed my oil this weekend at the 5000km/3000mi interval. Drained just over 3.5L dino oil, put in 5L. Most vehicles I've changed oil with burned off somewhere in the neighborhood of 1 - 1.5 L/quarts around the 3000mi mark. 3/4 of a quart at the 2k mile sounds about right.

Now, if I was to turn 3 liters between changes? I'd be freaking out, for one. I can't see how that'd be considered normal. The '03 has a total capacity around 7L, so that's just under half the oil in the engine. Might be within Nissan specs, but that can't be normal.

I have an 02 with 139K miles. I burn 1-2 qts between oil changes depending on speed and time of year. If I've got it on cruise at 75 mph in July for 6-7 hours I burn more than I do at this time of the year. It's been that way since I had 70K on the clock. As long as I don't get "the blue cloud", I try not to worry about it.
