01 Pathfinder bogging and sputtering!!!????

Hey guys. I'm new to this forum, but basically cause my 01 Pathfinder is having HUGE problems. Ok, so here's the deal, for the past about 6 months the car has had this problem to where it won't go over 4500 rpms. On top of that, when you FIRST crank it up and go to pull off, if u give it any gas it would bog down to about 500rpms and WILL NOT go anywhere. Once you get past the bogging down stage and start to go, it would jump as if I was letting off the gas and giving gas again very rapidly.

Ok, so this didn't bother us to much considering after about 2 mins of driving it would do somewhat fine.

SO, here's the NEW problem along with the old problem. Yesterday we took about a 2 hour trip up to Virginia. Everything was good.........for a while..........then we started hearing this loud loud ticking noise when we would give it gas. I pulled over, and it would not make that noise while just idling or sitting still and revving. I turned the car off a couple times and it eventually went away. We get to our destination and I check the oil...........DRY. It has only been right at 3k miles since I changed the oil last.

So here comes the bad part. We stopped and put 2 quarts of oil in it just to make it home. NOW the car hardly gets any power to go anywhere, the RPMS are jumping everywhere when you hit the gas, it's sputtering, it will go for about 25 secs (i've counted it and it's about the same everytime) then the RPMS will drop to about 2k and will not go anywhere.

So here's what I'm thinking it may be. Sounds like the MAF has gone haywire and needs to be replaced on top of an oil change and possibly new spark plugs.

OR...........the fuel pump has gone bad.

Any suggestions help and/or previous experience with this problem would be helpful. Thanx for reading.

sounds alot like what happened when my igniton coils went bad. Is your SES light on?

I'm embarrassed to say I've had the low oil you discussed as well. Wasn't leaking any, and coming up on the 3K change...same deal. Changed oil, filled it up, Running OK now, thank god. This is a new one on me-- is the VQ known for burning oil around 90K miles? Thought I knew just about every other issue.

well now get this...........all the stuff I said t was doing the other day, is no longer doing it again and it's running fine. I DON'T UNDERSTAND IT. I mean honestly, if it was a huge huge problem, then I would expect to happen all the time. I think its something electrical that is just being a nusense.

yea. That's the symptoms of the ignition coil failure. I've had 2 go out-- same deal as you describe.

But if the light's not on/flashing, I don't know...

u wouldn't happen to have a part number or website where I can find an ignition coil? that would be awesome. Also, any idea where this part is located on the car? Thank you again.
