Headlamps

On my 2006 Pathfinder the headlamps have melted in the housings. They still operate but plastic has dripped across the passenger side light and the drivers side is showing signs of it also beginning to melt. I beleive the lamps are original. It's a recovered stolen so no warranty.

Sounds like the bulbs were swapped out for HID and the housing is not made for the heat they put out. Plus your wiring is probably overheating and the insulation is breaking down. My advice is to get new housings, which I know is expensive, but if they are dripping they aren't watertight anymore. Get new bulbs that are the right wattage. Hopefully your wiring isn't toast so you can reuse that. At the very least get the correct bulbs in there for now till you can afford the housings.

HID's produce less heat than standard xenon or halogen bulbs. Someone probably put in high-wattage bulbs and fried it good.
