Need some help on tire and rim sizes...

Hey, I'm a newbie here, although I've had my '98 Pathfinder for about 8 years now. I've been running 31x10.5R15 tires on it since shortly after I got it and someone told me I could put up to 31s on there with no modding and no rubbing. It has worked out well so far. (I believe stock is 235/70R15)

My question is this: can I put larger rims (like 16s or 17s) on it? And if so, what would the corresponding tire size be that I should look for. Its time to replace the existing tires, and I've been thinking about new rims as well. I want to get larger rims with the biggest tires possible without rubbing and without having to do any mods.

I am really a rookie when it comes to this stuff, and have no idea what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Erik

running 16's you would have a 265/70/16, from there either just go to any tire site that shows specs for the tires and look for tires with a similar O/D and width, and then check the corresponding rim size. just dont go larger than 31x10.5 specs on a stock setup and you should be fine

edit: if you are still off-roading you probably wont want to go any larger than the 16" rim as you will end up losing pliability in the tire, as well as run the risk of damaging the rims. also, the 31x10.5x15 tires are typically a heavier bias/ply tire and are more resistant to sidewall puncture and damage created by off-road conditions
