Apparently some people HAVE retrofitted a tire carrier onto a Pathy that never came with one, but it's not a simple drill-and-go thing. I've gotten all the internal brackets from the junkyard for mine and they simply do not fit into the tight corners of the body without cutting apart some sheetmetal. I suppose you could simply cut up the stock brackets to get them into the corners, that may work.
I quit carrying a spare a long time ago. 33's don't fit inside.

yeah i didn't think it would be as simple as just drill and putting it on...i found someone that can weld sheetmetal for me to make for extra support and what not...we'll see how this "project" goes...thanks for the help guys
so i picked up the tire hitch last night and while i was looking at the parts and the back of my pathfinder, i noticed that there is holes that are marked below the door where the two bottom pieces are supposed to be, with this, i was wondering if they all did come with this, because it is the same body type regardless of the hitch or not?
the door's probably the same, but the bumpers.... dunno on that vehilce though... just givin some ideas for you to run over. on newer cars, the rear hitch spares i think have bumpers that either are lower.. or have valleys that allow the spare to swing in.

damn government and their incredibly expensive tickets, hows a good natured racer supposed to stay legit?
gd... if i could only make it past the lower class, i'd be rich. damn facists.
I am actually doing this on my 1990 XE pathy as well. All that was needed was to salvage a junkyard tire rack (off a 1994) and the brackets inside the body panel (spot welded onto the sheet metal). After some playing around with the brackets they can be made to fit inside of the body panel allowing the tire rack to mount on quite nicely.
i noticed that there is holes that are marked below the door where the two bottom pieces are supposed to be
I've noticed them too, and i think 88pathoffroad did also seeing as he has put an emblem right about where the holes would be. lol
I thought about measuring where the rack is on my parts pathy and drilling in on mine but i've never tried. there is alot of support inside (on the parts one) i know this because i cut the back off with a chop saw. it's worth a shot if no one has tried.. and if there is no threads where there should be, throw in some bondo. (Parts pathy se - road pathy xe)
Now i'm thinking of building a spare tire holder that fits into my trailer hitch receiver, I never open my hatch anyways.
Good luck

Years ago.....maybe, seven, I got an aftermarket spare tire carrier from Sears car & truck mail order catalog. The carrier was specific to fit my Pathfinder ('92). It was under $200, came with good instructions, and fastened entirely to the bumper - not the fender corner, or the deck hatch. It was awesome! I have no idea if you can still get them, or not.
