Question Exhaust noise from a 93 Pathfinder

Hi again everyone,

I have another problem with my 93 Pathfinder, When I start it up the exhaust on the passenger side leaks with a sound like a lifter ticking, but it is the exhaust. When the engine warms up a little bit say 3 minutes or so the noise goes away, like it seals itself. It appears to me that there maybe a thin metal gasket where the exhaust manifold meets the exhaust pipe. Could this be the culprit??? Or is it the exhaust manifold itself??? Has anyone had this problem??? I really would like to know, I can't feel where it is leaking, but can tell it is the exhaust without a doubt.

Just an update on my door locks, I have not had any problems since I took the delay switch out and then reinstalling it.

Thank You and GOD BLESS!!!

You have a broken or missing exhaust manifold bolt. Very, very common problem. Hopefully it didn't break off in the head so it'll be easy to extract when the time comes.

It won't cause any problems, it'll just make noise.

I know that I've got two studs broke off, I'm in need of the gasket replacement as well, but not quite ready to extract the studs, working on my skills alittle more first...lol..Are the fluted or reverse drill bit style stud extractors better in your guys/gals opinion?

One thing is for sure, you have to be real careful when drilling studs out of an aluminum head. When the studs are iron or steel and the heads are aluminum, the bit can wander and go through a head, so you have to be very careful. Hopefully there is enough stud sticking out that you can work with.
