The mesh piece of exhaust??

Do you really need that wire mesh looking piece of exhaust just in front of the muffler??? Mine is leaking and I would love to cutt it out and put a piece of pipe in as a replacement. But fear a problem. If not wear can you find one??
Thanks Jason

The flex pipe is there because presumably there is enough engine movement to crack a solid pipe. Replace it with a solid pipe and see what happens,

Yes, you definitly need the flex pipe. It will certainly break some other part very quickly. Most likely you have a worn motor mount that has caused the flex pipe to wear out, as the flex pipes generally will last for the life of the car if the motor mounts are good.

yeah id just replace it with a new one, any exhaust/muffler shop will have them. Youll have your car up and down in about 10 minutes (depending on the line at the door).. or if you have your own welder you can just cut yours out and weld a new one in.

Oil leak

Thanks for you replies on my thread about the FLEX PIPE. I guess that was a silly question (after all it is there for a reason). I'm starting to put all the pieces together. I got an oil leak thats pretty bad at the rear of the engine and at some point the oil pan has been droped I don't know if the rear main seal is leaking or if its the pan gasket. But as I check in a little further everyone is saying you got to pull the engine or drop the transmission or both?? To replace the oil pan gasket. That leads me to think at some point maybe the engine has been pulled? Which would make me think that the motor is not torque enough or something that caused the flex pipe to wear out. Anyhow thats not my concern. but the oil leak is. Everybody is saying the rear mains are a pressed in seal and are not notorious for leaking. If not wonder what it could be and how to go about fixing it? Any comments or Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
