1st oil change V8 5.6L Pathy

Hello,

here.

trying to order online the right Nissan oil filter + crush washer from courtesyparts.com but they have so many of them and it's not very clear which one is for the 5.6L VK56 Pathfinder.
I want to get the 10 oil filter package. Any mechanic out there that can confirm the right part # ?

PF has about 3500 miles. Also thinking of using Mobil 1 fully synthetic 5W-30, is that ok ?

Thanks

no auto parts store in your area? They'd be able to measure it up. 3500 miles, I don't think that's enough break in time. I'd change to synthetic on the next oil change.

I'm running Mobil 1 5W-30, I think it's the best full synthetic for the money, especially since you can get 5 qt. jugs at the logal megamart for ~$20. A Redline or Royal Purple might be better, but it's not worth double the cost. 3500 miles should be plenty long of a break in, in my opinion. If Nissan required a longer break in period on conventional oil they would have been very specific about it, as they are with other fluids.

I would think twice about buying a 10 pack of filters though, depending on how much you drive. Cellulose filters typically have a shelf life of no more than 5 years, and you don't know how long the filters have been sitting at the dealer or supplier. I'm only changing my oil twice a year (6000 mi), so I'd worry about the last few filters out of that 10 pack, but you might go through them quicker.

ask your SA, but tell him u want them to change it and which one do they reccomend...use a little lie of your own to get some honesty out of the normal liar...

id say 3500 is plenty more then enough break in time, if you had a high performance engine, like say an M3 or an Audi S10 (lambo v10), they only require 1500 miles b4 the break in is over and you can finally go have some fun, but they also limit the rpm's you can achieve during htat period

Why the hesitation to go synthetic?

By the way, Nissan's break in period is 1500 miles, according to the owner's manual. You are well past that, and now your engine can only benefit from the added protection from synthetic.

alright so I got my parts: oil filter is the same for xterra, frontier, armada and Titan...

I also got some Valvoline SAE 5w-30, same specs than in the user's manual.
I'll probably switch to synthetic next time

my dealership offers free oil changes on my 08 V8 LE for 36K miles. Is this specific to my area?

It is probably the dealer itself giving oil changes for free. This way they can use it as an incentive to move the trucks off the lot. Nissan isn't in to giving anything away for free.

alright it's done...took me more time than expected...I had to remove the whole engine skid plate to access the oil filter since that one was a pita to remove..they really cranked it hard at the factory... !!...that took me quite some time since the adapter tool for the oil filter kept slipping..I eventually got it by using some tape to get some more grip to the filter !

so in order:

remove engine skid plate (14 bolts)
remove oil drain plug
drain oil from oil pan
put new oil drain plug washer
put back the oil drain plug
wipe all the oil around
remove oil filter ( pita)
wipe oil around the area
oil new filter
put new filter back on: hand tighten + 2/3 turn after that ( didn't crank it as hard as the factory)
wipe oil around area
fill up engine with new oil: a little bit over 6-1/2 QT of Valvoline 5w-30
start up engine and check for oil leaks: looks ok
stop engine then wait for 5-10 min and check oil dipstick
added a little bit of oil.
start engine again and check for leaks: looks ok
put skid plate back on with the flashlight.. ( it was getting late in my driveway..)

that's it !

questions ? comments ?

Hey Impact,
Where did you purchase your V8 pathy? I'm just outside of Burbank and we need to purchase our Pathfinder by 2/15/08, so bascially anytime now.
You're in L.A.?
It looks like "bluedaisey" got a great price on their loaded SE V8, but we were hoping for an LE V8, preferably 4x4. Want pretty much all the options, so depending on what you have, it may be slightly apples to oranges, but curious where you bought, if you'd recommend that dealer, and if you don't mind, a ballpark on price....?
And thanks for the write up on the oil change. I will be revisiting this thread a few months after we buy it.
Thanks all!

you can PM me for more details.
Bought it from Downtown LA Nissan. Had a good service there and I can recommend you my sales guy. He was great to deal with. DLA is a big dealership so they have a big stock and you can also order the one you want ( that's what we did and waited 3 weeks for it)
