The 8V voltage regulator on the top, back side of the gauges is shot. Both those gauges run off the same voltage regulator so that's how you can tell when it's shot. A new one from Nissan will probably run you $20 but a generic 8VDC regulator at Radio Shack will cost you $1 if you can solder some wires onto the terminals of it. It's an easy swap. The regulator is the little squarish aluminum box with yellow, blue and black wires coming out of it. You have to take the gauges out to get at it. Takes a Philips screwdriver and 15-20 minutes.

Here, take a look (PDF file, takes Adobe Acrobat or a similar PDF reader to open):

I went around a corner today at a high rate of speed and the gauges came back on, but when I shut the engine off and restarted it they didn't work again, does this seem right v\can the regulator just work sometimes?

That sounds like a loose connection, the voltage regulator could also have something loose inside it. That could have had the same result.

I will check again for a bad connection then I will test the regulator, seems pretty easy to do
