Liquid colors

What color should the Transfer Case fluid be?

The lube guys showed me that it was a browny color and that it should be redish instead, and that someone must have put gear oil in there instead.

Bright Green: radiator coolant, this is also very slippery to the touch.

Light or Dark Brown: if you change the oil often it will be a light brown, if not the fluid will be a darker brown.

Bright Blue: windshield washer fluid. (Winter washer fluids can be orange, pink or yellow).

Light Brown: if there is also a strong odor of rotten eggs, this is 90 weight or gear lube.

Red Fluid: Automatic transmission fluid or power steering fluid, this is also the same fluid that goes in the transfer case

Clear: Power steering fluid or water from the condenser on the A/C unit.

Light Yellow: Brake fluid is light yellow when new as it absorbs water the fluid becomes a dark muddy brown.

Amber: Gasoline, but there will be a distinct odor

What year? Some take gear oil, some take ATF. The t-case design never changed but the fluid type did so it's widely considered that the fluids are interchangeable, many people at NPORA have switched from one to the other with no problem at all.
