'89 Path power steering pump whine

Have an 89 Path SE which has a very noticeable "whine" noise in the cab area, that I've tracked down to something in the power steering area. If I take the belt off the PS pump, the whine goes away.

Would anyone know if I'm looking at a pump replacement, or might it be something else in the PS mechanics. Power steering has been and is working fine at the moment. Would appreciate any assistance if anyone's worked on this particular issue before before I replace the pump... TIA -

It's probably on it's way out if it's whining. Not a common problem or complaint, but every now and then things wear out.

Better late than never I guess. Just now getting around to swapping out this PS pump.

Is there a parts supplier you guys can recommend to get this pump? I've tried looking online and not having much luck locating one. The local Nissan shop wants over $400 for a replacement pump and would rather find a cheaper solution. Used not a problem.

Thanks up front for any assistance -

thx for the tips fellas - fluid levels i've always kept topped off and spent probably 40min with autopartswarehouse and my 89 is a VIN Y family. Most parts they offer are for VIN H family. I was told that it wouldn't fit. Never did follow up on this to verify as the APW rep I was dealing with wasn't the sharpest pencil in the stack.
