Newbie! How do I tell if my 94 came with 235 or 31 tires?

Hi all! I'm new to the site and I just bought a 1994 Pathfinder LE. I tried to research the archives and all people say is that they came stock with both 235/75R-15 and 31x10.5-15 tires. How does one tell which is stock on their Pathfinder though? I did find the rear gears could be 4.375 or 4.625. Which gear goes with each tire or could those be mixed as well? Thanks!

Oh...it looks like I joined in 2004, but I signed up then to research Nissan's. I bought a chevy K1500 instead. Now I have the 1994 Pathfinder Le too!

Is there a tire placard (sticker) on the inside of the glove box or under the center console lid that lists the size? Are the wheels chrome or alloy mags? Chrome's were always 235's. I'm also fairly sure that the 31's were mounted on 10" wide alloy wheels, if I'm not mistaken. The 31's were most often found on SE models and had a triangular shaped, plastic center cab.

Chrome steel 15x6's got 235's.

Plain steel 15x6's got 235's.

Bright-finish alloy 15x6's got 235's. Those are the wheels the LE's usually had.

Grey alloy 15x7 Lego wheels got the 31's, but could also have 235's, depending on owner preference.

Gearing has nothing to do with tire size selection. Neither does transmission type or accessory package, from what I've seen. You can find out which gears you have by looking at the under-hood tag on the fender on the passenger side near the firewall. Under "Axle Code" it will either be HG43 or HG46, indicating which gearing you have, 4.375:1 or 4.625:1.

If you want bigger tires, put on 31x10.50's. Or 30x9.50's. Or 235's. They all fit decently enough, though sometimes 31's DO rub a little in stock shape.
