I am struggling with replacing the lower ball joints on my daughter's Pathfinder. I have the joint loose from the knuckle, but I do not seem to have enough clearance between the knuckle and the CV Boot to remove the ball joint.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
I apologize if this a commonly asked question. I'm new.
Raise and support front of vehicle and remove wheel. Do not raise on lower link assembly.
Remove shock absorber upper attaching bolt, if necessary.
Using suitable jack, raise lower link and remove upper ball joint tightening nut, then press ball joint out of knuckle.
Remove the upper link spindle attaching bolts and upper link. Adjusting shims are behind spindle.
Remove ball joint attaching nuts, then the ball joint.
Remove nuts and washers from both ends of upper link spindle, then press spindle and bushings out of link.
Reverse procedure to install.
LOWER
Raise and support front of vehicle and remove wheel.
Remove torsion bar, refer to TORSION BAR .
Remove lower shock absorber attaching bolt.
Disconnect stabilizer connecting rod and tension or compression rod from lower link.
Remove ball joint tightening nut, then press ball joint from knuckle spindle.
Remove the lower link spindle and lower link assembly.
Remove ball joint attaching nuts, then the ball joint.
Remove nuts and washers from both ends of lower link spindle, then press spindle and bushings out of link.
Reverse procedure to install.
smj: Why would you need to remove the t-bar to do the lowers? Just de-tension the adjusters. Also, why remove the whole upper control arm/spindle/bushings when doing the upper BJ? I think your instructions need some work or are applicable to a different model, man.
I had to pull the CV joint when I did my lower balljoints. There's no room for the BJ to be removed with the CV in place.

I have discovered that the cv boots are definitely in the way. I undid the upper ball joint from the control arm and was able to slide the knuckle from the spindle far enough to get the lower ball joint in.
