Ok, has anyone else had this major problem with their truck? I have an 97 path SE with just below 100,000 miles. This thing has never been beaten on, nor has it had any real problems in the 2 years i have owned it. 6 months ago, i was driving locally and it just shut off in traffic. It turned right back on and i made it home. The problem has gotten much worse since then. Now, the truck will randomly turn off and wont start back up again anywhere from 5 minutes to 5 hours later. Nissan has been 100% useless with the 6 times my truck has been in. Whenever they get it, it works perfectly. But about 3 days later, i get stuck in traffic again. I have replaced the computer, distributor, and crankshaft sensor. Pretty much if someone suggests something, ill replace it and see if it works. If anyone has any info, please help! Nissan offered me $500 bucks after they admitted they couldnt fix their own product!!! Then tried selling me the same truck but 2 years newer with 77,000 miles for $18,000!!! I dont want to have to shoot this truck, so im still looking to try to fix it...
You might check into testing the coil. I believe it's internal on the distributor, but if it got swapped out with the new dizzy, maybe not.

It sounds like a crankshaft sensor. If you notice it happens more during wet weather, it's probably the culprit. If the truck doesn't see tdc mark on the fly wheel then it will supply no spark. I had 2 go out in my old jeep. They just wore out after 65k each time. When the dealer looked at my problem, it always happened to be a sunny day, so it wouldn't show up.

I am now going through the exact same thing. I suspect it's something wrong with the exhaust valve resulting in some kinda vapor lock. Its been hot here in Denver, and the problem has gotten worse. Mine tends to die as I slow down or am braking. When it dies for good, it will restart in an hour or so. I suspect that is how long it takes the pressure to relieve.
Is there any recourse if I am right in my suspicion? My mechanic has knawed through my wallet chasing his suspicions...fuel pump, ignition sensor, knock sensor, ignition transistor, etc...
