2001 Pathfinder - Should I keep it?

Hi,

I am new to the Forum and I could use some help making a decision.

I own a 2001 Pathfinder SE with a manual transmission that has 61,00 miles. I am the original owner. We have been very happy with the truck. We have had very few problems or expenses other than some of the typical problems I have read about on the forum (the exhaust system rusted out, had to replace the O2 sensors twice, one of the tubular running boards rusted out. We are on our second set of tires.). There is absolutely nothing wrong with the truck but I am going to have to do some brake work and deal with the shocks. I was also thinking about doing some performance and handling modifications.

What would be really helpful is to get other Forum Member's perspectives on a few questions:

1. Should I keep the truck?
2. What type of useful life should I expect?
3. What potential problems am I looking at if I keep the truck for another 40K miles or so?
4. What performance and handling enhancements are available and what makes sense to do?

Thanks for your help.

61k is practically new for a well-maintained vehicle IMHO. i've got 90k on mine (runs great) and you should be able to get 150k or more if you treat her right.

an upgraded set of shocks and struts along with a nice set of tires would be a great handling upgrade.

perhaps an upgraded exhaust system could beef up performance a bit.

Do you have suggestions on struts, shocks and tires?

I also have an 01 purchased new and have maintained it well. Only have 70k miles or so, it's paid for and runs great. If your happy with it, why in the heck take on a car loan? Anyway those are my thoughts, I would keep it.

I have Ranchos and Michelin LTXs on mine and get a nice ride.

i've hear the kyb struts are good and maybe their shocks too. rancho has a few diff types of shocks to choose from as well.

as far as tires go it kinda depends on what you're looking for and/or needing. i like to peruse the reviews on tirerack.com.

on my expy i got a set of firestone destination a/t that are great. my path still has the crap that were on their when i bought them.
