Hey guys, I'm looking at purchasing either a 2001 or 2002 Pathfinder, and wondered if you guys would mind giving me a list of things to look out for. I had a 1990 240SX back in College, but have been in VW's ever since, so I don't know much about the newer Nissans. Anything you can offer would be a great help!
test drive a bunch to get the feel for how the tranny and engine should feel (and also to get a feel for a 'tight' vehicle as opposed to a rickety one).
maintainence records are a nice plus (if you're looking private).
dito on o2 sensors as well as catalytic converter code OBII.
check for warped rotors, tire and brake condition and of course fully test all buttons, knobs, and 4X4 if applicable

i would recommend that have it test drive first.. then check all the parts such as the 02 sensors, nissan catalytic converter, suspension parts, wheels.. this is to ensure that its in good working condition.. good luck and happy car shopping..
My 2002 SE just rolled past 98500 miles this month and I have to say I still love it. I bought it with 36k miles back in 2004 and since then I haven't had any problems until recently. Right now I need new exhaust parts but since it was a New England vehicle, at 100k its kinda expected that the pipes start rusting out.
With that, I say take a look at the pipe between the mufflers. Mine rusted through and now if I get Nissan parts its going to cost around 700$. I am still looking for alternatives.
Beyond that, over the course of 60k+ miles I bought new tires, upgraded the shocks and struts 2 mo ago, replaced the belts this past christmas and thats it! Everything else is still solid and I try to monitor it frequently. I think they were build pretty solid.
