Manual transmission problem

Hey everyone. I'm having some issues with my trans, its a 1997 Pathfinder SE 5 speed. The clutch pedal feels very stiff, and when it is running will not shift into any gears. When the car is off, it will shift into 1-4 fine, but won't shift into 5th. It seems like the clutch isn't disengaging, or some sort of hydraulic problem to me but that's just a guess seeing as i know nothing about transmissions . Oh and when this first happened and it did shift into gear it would make some sort of ticking noise as if something was hitting something else inside the trans. Sorry about the long post but I'm trying to be thorough.

I'll bet the pressure plate fins have worned down. You'll probably need to get your clutch replaced.

Thanks.

Someone on another forum suggested that it may be a bushing that makes the assembly from the trans to the shifter off alignment. Does anyone know anything about this?
