'90 pathfinder

there is what I thought was a lifter noise coming from the front of the engine, sound like the top of the timing cover area. sounds like a mini diesel engine. truck has 166k on it, and the timing belt was done maybe 40k miles ago. it had been sitting for about 9 months before I got it, and I've change the oil twice now, and since I thought it was the lifters, I put some additives in to help quiet the lifter noise. but, now I know where it's coming from.

any ideas? I am stumped.

Use a stethescope (automotive type). This will help you pinpoint the location of the noise. Head, block (top or bottom), or even farther forward (pulleys, etc). Also knowing the type of noise will help (tick, heavy knock, scratch, rattle).

i got up in there and listened a little better. sounds like lifter tick. sounds like a mini diesel, lol. I put some lucas in and it helped a little, but its still there. truck runs great, just has the noise. any ideas on how to quite down the lifters?
