I need a vacuum diagram for this 1987 Pathfinder 3.0 engine seems like the vacuum lines are not correct and the engines is running very poorly. Has lots of black smoke and dies after it warms up.

well in my book code 13 says it is engine temp sensor. If it is this then it dies when it warms because it is drawing a cold idle the temp sens. is out.

As far as the vacuum hoses did u change anything or is this how it ran when u bought it?
There is now way to test the hot wire temp air meter it is just a coil that turns a wheel that shuts off the idle air.

It looks like a new terminal was installed on the end of the wire. i will replace it to see if that fixes it. As far as the vacuum goes I found some lines not connect under the air filter so I don't think they they were connected right in the first place. the canister next to the firewall at the back of the left side was disconnect at the engine can't seem to locate what it is supposed to be connected to

OK I replaced the terminal and now I have a code 12 in mode 3. I removed the Air mass sensor from the side of the carburator and cleaned the filament with electric contact cleaner also removed some corrosion from the 4 terminals. Is there anything else i can do to check this out? Multimeter?I don't want to spend 263 on this sensor.

The only way to test it is to try it on another pathfinder. U may come to find that when u fix the mass air flo that code 13 will come back

It's a TBI unit, not a carburetor. Try Ebay for a cheap replacement, maybe?

Testing procedure for 87-89 Pathfinder MAF sensor problems:

Great news!!! Thanks for helping me out. It was the ground wire on the motor was not connected. This motor was replace before I got it and the guy could not get it to run right! I had to replace the 02 sensor, engine temp sensor and the engine sending unit. She seems to be running but not as well as I want. The computer shows code 44 now which means we are good to go. Can you send me the factory instructions to set the timing this Hanes book really sucks.

The instructions in my Chilton book are just as good as the ones in the FSM.

Warm it up.
Open the hood and rev the engine at about 2000 RPM's for 2 minutes.
Let it idle for ten seconds or so.
Rev the engine several times.
Let it idle for 1 minute.
Check idle speed. Adjust if necessary. (700 RPM)
Connect a timing light to the #1 spark plug wire. Use the timing light to check the mark on the crank balancer in front of the engine.
Adjust timing by loosening the distributor adjuster bolt and turning the distributor clockwise to advance or counter-clockwise to retard. Stock timing is 12 degrees BTDC. Advancing it to 14 is OK and may yield a little bit more power.
Re-check timing after tightening the adjustment bolt to make sure it didn't change.
