99.5 Pathfinder Doesn't Start/Now Starts/Dosen't Start

I have had problems with this 99.5 Pathfinder not starting about 5 years ago with the key codes not engaging the Security chip. I replaced the keys through the dealership and was lucky to have no other problems with the starter until last night, at which time it would not start again. It would crank but not turn over, the battery was 100%, the dashboard was lit up, and the truck seemed to have full power- after waiting 1 hour I tried it again and it turned over in the first crank. I started it several times after that and it started again with ease.

My question is this should I replace the keys again through the dealership, try to pinpoint other problems areas (ie fuel pump, spark plugs, battery, ignition coils etc.), or just sit tight and hope for the best. I travel quite a bit and would hate for wifey and the newborn to get stuck dealing with this.

Just curious... is your CEL lit when this happens ?

So the vehicle will ( turn over ) crank but not fire.

Is the security ( not Theft warning ) light on ? This would indicate a problem with the immobilizer.

If it is the next time it happens try this :
1 - turn the key to off
2 - turn the key to on ( do not start vehicle ) wait 5 seconds
3 - turn the key to off
4 - repeat steps 2 & 3 two more times ( total of 3 cycles )
5 - start the engine

OR

It may be things like not getting fuel for example.

One simple test is :

when you first turn the key to "on" pinch the fuel feed hose.
Fuel pressure pulsation should be felt for approx. 5 seconds. This will indicate that the fuel pump is turning on .

It's a beginning.

Thanks Golfer....The security light was on when this occurred. I am thinking it is a problem with the immobilizer. Thanks for the tips when inserting the key. I just printed it off and put it in the glove compartment should this occur again.

I was thinking that it seemed similar to when my fuel pump relay whent kaput... it crapped out in me, but I did manage to get a few more starts, some times easier than others...
