2003 Pathy, Speedometer Sticking

I recently bought a 03' Pathfinder and on the way back the speedometer started sticking. The needle sometimes decides to stick at a certain speed(usally anywhere from 45 to 70ish) until either the vehicle actually slows down or speeds up a considerable amount or you tap on the see through partitian over the instrument panel lightly. The needle then jumps to the actual speed your going. Example: You are driving at 55, speedometer sticks, you slow down, speedometer still says 55 and finally jumps down to whatever speed you are actually going. If you tap on over it the needle jumps back to the actual speed. If anyone has any suggestions I would be most grateful. Thanks.

The needle could be touching the face of the gauges. A slight pull on it might clearance it to move freely.

Just to let everyone else who has this problem know. They are saying that the cluster will need to be replaced.

That's what they usually say...they don't do component-level repairs on parts, they just replace everything and make you pay for it.

I found after I pulled the clear front panel, the needle was just barely touching, instead of slight bend, I clipped the top of the needle about 1/8 of an inch with very sharp wire snips. Now it works like a champ and you cannot tell the needle is just a fraction of an inch shorter. A friend of mine with an 89 Pathfinder tried to pull on his needle that was touching and the damn thing broke off. Plastic was brittle. Best of Luck - Littlefish

They called last night and said they thought it was fixed. I am driving over later to get it. I hope I will receive a detailed explanation so that it will help somebody avoid all this in the future. It does seem from the symtoms that it should have been an "easy" fix though. Anyway it they have told me they would take care of it since it started immediately after I left the lot. Thanks for the input it is most appreciated.
