Has anyone attempted to replace the in-cabin microfilter on an '05+ Pathfinder? The view inside my glove box looks absolutely nothing like my owners manual or the service manual show.
There's something that looks like a cover, with a tab for a bolt hole, but no bolt. This tab, however, is on the top and to the left, rather than on the bottom and centered, as the manual shows. It looks like there may be some release tabs, but I'm not able to get them open easily and don't want to break anything.
Has anyone succeeded at replacing the filter, and what did you have to do?

Yes, I have.
You have to press in on the sides of the glove box pretty firmly, in order to get the door to open completely. That is, the glove box door should open so far that the glove box contents will dump out onto the floor. You may even want to disconnect the small retraction string attached to the hook on the left side of the back of the glove box (to keep it from constantly pulling the glove box closed). Once completely open, look in the hole, to the far right. There is a small door/cover (maybe 1 inch high by 3 inches wide) its held on with a single screw. Remove the screw and then the cover. Once you've removed the cover, you'll see the filter inside. The filter is actually made up of two half-pieces. Pull the left half out, then slide the right half to the left, and then pull that half out.
The new filters go in one half at a time. Note that they need to be slightly bent in the middle (look for a slit/cut in the new filters which will make the bend easier). Slide one half in and move it to the right. Then slide the other half in. It may take some screwing around. The access to the filter compartment is not direct. In other words, the filters are inserted into the filter compartment from a slight angle to the right. I found that I had to get kinda rough with the last filter to get it to go in there.
Hope this helps
I'd take a picture. But I can't figure out how to attach pictures to this post.

I guess I need to figure out how to post a photo, because my point was that the view behind my glove box looks nothing like the service manual shows. If it agreed with the manual, I wouldn't be posting this question.
There is a cover, but the tab is on the wrong side, and there is no screw/bolt where it looks like there should be. This cover is about the right size and looks like it might have a filter behind it, but it's fairly securly attached by a plastic latch, not easily removed. The manual makes no mention of a latch mechanism.
When I get the glove box down, I'm looking slightly up and to the right, just to the left of the fuse block. There's not many places inside this glove box area, so I presume this is it.
Anybody who's seen something different than indicated by the manual?

Just open it and see if you see a filter inside. BTW there is not other "hatch" behind the glove box except for the filter hatch.
BTW mine is missing the screw also. Though it did have filters inside.
Ok, I'll give it a shot. Makes you wonder when the components aren't as the manual shows them, or when screws are missing from day 1. Fortunately this is just the cabin filter and nothing more serious. I'll talk to Nissan about getting a replacement screw.

Here are some pictures for you. 1 with the cover still on. 2 with the cover off, showing the end of the white filter inside.
BTW. The screw was missing on mine too.
Thanks for posting the pictures, this is exactly the view I see. Note how the cover illustration in the service manual doesn't look anything like the cover. Good to hear that this missing screw is a common theme.
Nissan quoted me $52 for the replacement filter, but I ordered it online for $31 with shipping from nissanwholesaleparts.com. I assume it's an OEM part, but I'm not too concerned if it turns out to be aftermarket.
I know it depends on driving conditions. but what is recommended miles/months to change the filter?
and its not an included part of any of the service intervals?
this thread is good info. thanks.

According to the "Nissan Service and Maintenance Guide", which you should have gotten in the same portfolio with your Owners manual... every 15K miles, or 12 months.
