Thumbs down Replacing Bose Audio System on 2003 Pathy SE

Hey Guys,

I imported a 2003 Pathy SE - Leather with Bose Package to UAE (Dubai). Unfortunately, during its trip, some sailor loved the music system & decided to elope with it.. Don't even think how..

This has left me without a music system but the speakers are still around. I respect Bose for its sound quality and would like to keep the speakers. My options would be to either source a new/used OEM Bose system from US or install another compatible music system here.

With a bit of reading on the forums, I found out that Bose works on 2 Ohms & requires the OEM deck to work. If I change the music system, I may not be able to use the speakers and the steering audio controls.

If any angel could answer these questions:

Case 1 - Hunt down a New/Used OEM Bose music system from the US.
A. Can you provide any reseller or website who to source this product?.

Case 2 Buy a New Music System and run it on Bose Speakers
A. I tried plugging a CD player into the rack. But the Bose speakers don’t start off. The power is there but volume isnt. The audio system works on other speakers & the Bose speakers works when connected at the Speaker’s end connector. I suspect the connectors here but before I do that a audio wiring diagram would help.
B. Does the Bose system require a amplifier. The current output from any music system is 40W –RMS

Case 3. Chuck off Bose and Install a new system
A. With a heavy heart, I could do this but is there any way to control the new music system with the audio controls on the steering?. Is there a compatible model available.

Warm regards,
Gonsalves

You may check out PIE OEM LEADER Manufacturer OEM Integration and search for "Nissan." They have lots of conversion kits for factory to aftermarket stereo setups. I had to buy one for my 97 SE.

chuck the bose and start anew. while bose may make a good product in general, i've found there vehicle systems to be total crap.

you should be able to run a 4 ohm head unit and keep the speakers if you'd really like, you'll just need to find the proper wiring adapter/harness. check-out crutchfield.com.

your system should have an amplifier in there somewhere.

you can keep your steering wheel controls if you choose the right head-unit and purchase an adapter (again, check crutchfield).

good luck

Thanks guys for your responses.

I guess I shall try getting a compatible head unit. Hopefully a DIVX/DVD/MP3 player with the correct adapter to use the steering controls. If you have any suggestion on any model, let me know.

that's what i've been considering. you can get a steering wheel adapter for ~60.

As I have not seen the original Bose rack. I assume it would be 2 DIN unit with cassette and CD with built in Amplifier. I would also assume that there are no extra amplifiers around the spearkers..

I am considering a double Din DIVX player similar to the following link.

eBay Motors: 2 DIN Multi-Media DVD with OSD Touch Screen D-2780 (7") (item 270076638335 end time Jan-11-07 18:30:00 PST)

But am not sure if this is gonna have connectivity to steering controls.. if it does .. will surely buy the adapter..

Just installed a touchscreen Divx/DVD player. Chucked the Bose cus they dont work well with the 4 ohm output. Installed 6" pioneer speakers (didnt have the choice of using better size due to the casing issue)

Cant say its rocking.. but surely makes the drive better..

Thanks for your help..

Cheers..

Have any pics of the install? Curious to see how the double DIN fits in the opening for the dash. Did you have to do any modifications to the stock radio bezel?
