Make sure that it is compatible, since I know of two customers (a 2003 350Z and a 2005 Frontier) whom had their vehicles flushed at a local quick-lube with regular MerconIII/Dexron. They drove for about 50~60 miles and then their tranny went south.
They tried to get it warrantied, but were denied since the wrong kind of fluid was found in the tranny.

Good point too, maybe it's not risking the transmission or the warranty trying to save $50 on fluid! Even if Valvoline says it's compatible, Nissan is very adamant in their spec and they could still say you didn't follow proper service procedures and void the warranty.

50-60 miles is all it took? Wow.

Seems a bit early for the '05 Frontier to be getting his system flushed, but maybe he towed or put a lot of miles on...

Well, you never know with other places. They may have sold him a trans flush even if he didn't need it. I don't remember what his mileage was tho.
I guess it is tempting to save money, since one bottle of Matic-J is about $12.

I just had mine flushed with DEXRON III and they then added an amount of BG friction modifier and some conditioner stuff. The BG modifier had a spec on the label stating it would exceed the Nissanmatic J.

200 miles towing a trailer in stiff wind and all's still well..........
